Cheltenham and the surrounding area

Taking its name from the small River Chelt, Cheltenham first became popular as a spa resort in the early 18th Century.  Today it is known for Horse Racing and the extensive Festival programme, as well as its good shopping facilities and excellent restaurants.

Cheltenham has a population of approximately 110,000 and is in the county of Gloucestershire.  It also lies within the Cotswolds, the largest area of outstanding natural beauty in England and Wales.
