Broadening Horizons

It is very important that College can offer an education that is broader than just examination courses. To this end, our provision for extra-curricular activity is well-resourced and presents girls with all sorts of opportunities to learn new skills and develop their talents.

We usually find that fulfilled girls are those who can balance their academic and extra-curricular commitments in an organised and sensible way. There is no fixed formula for the number and type of activities which a girl must do but most settle into a combination of perhaps two to three weekly events outside of the normal teaching time. A large number of girls are very active in both the sporting fixtures and musical life of the College and we do not have houses which are specifically linked to particular activities such as drama or sport as is the case in some schools.

The level of expertise a girl shows in her chosen activities will matter and, of course, not everyone can be in the first hockey or lacrosse teams. However, there are numerous opportunities for girls to be involved, whatever their level of ability, and many have been delighted by the peer support which is apparent when a girl is willing to 'have a go' and represent her house team in debating or swimming or even a talent show!
